The baptism record of Dorothy Consitt has not been found. Her age at death on her gravestone would suggest a birthdate of ca. 1800 [see below], while the 1860 census of Warren co., IA, which gives her age at 59, would suggest ca. 1801, as would the 1856 state census of Lee co., Iowa, where her age is given as 55 [1856 census, Lee co., IA, p. 720]. On the other hand, the known marriage of her father did not occur until 1803.

Date of death: 25 February 1862, aged 62.
Place of burial: Scotch Ridge cemetery, Allen tp., Warren co., IA.

Mother: Unknown.
Dorothy's parentage is proved by the will of Thomas Consitt of Market Weighton, which names his daughter Dorothy Cartwright [see the page of Thomas Consitt for a transcript of the will]. If the American records (which seem fairly consistent) are wrong about her birthdate and she was born as late at 1804, then she could be the daughter of Thomas Consitt by his known marriage to Rebecca Rhodes. However, the possibility must also be allowed that she was the daughter of an earlier otherwise unknown wife of Thomas Consitt.
